A downloadable game for Windows

Travel from orbit into the habitats of Nacre, a fictional planet with an established alien biosphere. Fly over the landscape, swim beneath the ocean, or follow one of its inhabitants. Change the world, advance generations, and observe how life responds.

Free Windows build · 1.0-dev · In development

This is the first playable foundation for version 1.0, with faceted procedural prototype art and simplified ecological models.

Shape a living world

  • Explore the globe, coasts, forests, volcanic uplands, and underwater habitats with a free camera.
  • Follow creatures and inspect inherited anatomy, age, energy, and ancestry.
  • Observe mutation, environmental selection, and new species branches within defined anatomical families.
  • Pause, slow time, or advance the ecology through generations.
  • Sculpt terrain, change sea level and climate, edit life, and adjust gravity, atmosphere, fertility, and lifespan.
  • Observe or trigger volcanoes, typhoons, and tsunamis, then watch ecological damage and recovery.
  • Experiment with local saves, snapshots, restoration, and location bookmarks.

Getting started

Download Nacre-Windows.zip, extract it, and run Nacre.exe. No Godot editor or online service is required. Choose Explore → Coast or Ocean, then press F to find and follow nearby life. Closing the game saves the world and pauses it until you reopen it.

Controls

  • Left drag: orbit. Mouse wheel: zoom or adjust follow distance.
  • Hold right mouse: look around. WASD: fly or swim. Q/E: descend or ascend. Shift: move faster.
  • F: follow nearby life. Space: release following. Home: return to orbit.
  • P: pause/resume. H: hide/show tools. F5/F9: save/load.

Current scope

Nacre is a compressed gameplay planet. Faraway life is represented by populations and gene pools; nearby life is rendered in detail. Evolution changes inherited traits and body shapes within compatible families. Disasters and biology are game models. There are no civilizations or multiplayer in this build.

Choose the Low quality setting first. Minimum supported hardware is still being established; the build has been tested on Windows with an RTX 4070 Laptop GPU.

Built with Godot. Engine and third-party notices are included in the download. Development used AI assistance for code and text; the planet, creatures, and audio are generated by procedural game systems.

Feedback and bug reports are welcome in the comments. Please include your Windows version, graphics card, and what happened.
